Allmählich darf man den E55 AMG als den neuen 500E W124 bezeichnen…


Aus Investitionssicht lässt sich der E55 AMG in zwei Klassen einteilen. Mit der Zeit wird deutlich, dass dieser AMG-Typ immer seltener wird. Fahrzeuge mit geringer Laufleistung und vollständiger Historie finden sich zunehmend bei Sammlern oder Enthusiasten, die sich nur ungern davon trennen. E55-Modelle mit weniger als 100.000 km und einer deutschen Erstauslieferung sind äußerst rar. Nennen wir diese Modelle potenzielle Investmentobjekte. Fahrzeuge mit Laufleistungen über 150.000 km eignen sich hingegen eher als Daily Driver und befinden sich oft in einem schlechteren Zustand.


Persönlich ist der W211 mein absoluter Favorit – und das bedarf einer Erklärung. Das Lautstarke, wofür Mercedes im Jahr 2023 im AMG-Bereich bekannt ist, sucht man beim E55 vergebens. Er ist ein Wolf im Schafspelz, der bei seiner Markteinführung im Jahr 2002 Kritiker sprachlos machte. 476 PS in einem Familienfahrzeug, das beim Beschleunigen die Erdrotation spürbar beeinflusst. Das Drehmoment ist unvergleichlich, und unter Kennern herrscht Einigkeit: Der M113-Kompressor-Motor dieses Fahrzeugs gilt als der zuverlässigste Motor, den AMG je gebaut hat.

Slowly but surely, the E55 AMG is earning the title of the new 500E W124…


From an investment perspective, the E55 AMG can be divided into two distinct categories. Over time, it’s becoming clear that this type of AMG is getting rarer by the day. Low-mileage examples with full service history are increasingly found in the hands of collectors or enthusiasts who are reluctant to let them go. E55s with under 100,000 km and a German first registration are exceptionally rare. Let’s call these the potential investment-grade vehicles. Models with mileage north of 150,000 km, on the other hand, are more suited as daily drivers, and are often in a more worn condition.


Personally, the W211 is my absolute favorite – and that calls for an explanation. The loud, flashy persona Mercedes-AMG has become known for by 2023 is nowhere to be found here. The E55 is a true wolf in sheep’s clothing, a car that left critics speechless upon its debut in 2002. 476 horsepower in a family sedan that, under full throttle, might as well accelerate the planet’s rotation. The torque is unmatched, and among AMG aficionados, the verdict is clear: the M113 Kompressor engine in this car is the most reliable powerplant AMG has ever built.
