For sale: our trusty 2017 Smart ForFour

With a heavy heart we are parting with our lovely 2017 Smart. We are the first owners from new, having bought the car in late 2017 from Smart Luxembourg. Since purchase, she has driven 85000Km (though this will increase slightly as she is still semi-regularly used). In this time she has received a few new parts, namely, new front brakes and pads, new AGM battery as well having both front control arms replaced. She has also received some interior upgrades such as an armrest with charging ports as well as a new radio that supports both wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Some basic characteristics:
-1L 3cyl engine producing 71hp and consuming ~5.5L/100km in mixed cycle driving
-6 speed DCT automatic transmission
-4 seats (and can actually carry 4 tall adults!)

The Good:
- Cruise control
- Reversing Camera
- CarPlay/Android auto radio
- Automatic climate control with ice cold A/C
- Start/Stop system
- Electrically adjustable mirrors/ power windows in the front
- Full service history at Smart Luxembourg as well as receipts of all work done
- 2 keys with fob
- CT Until mid December 2025
- A turning circle so small you can do a U-Turn on 95% of roads in Lux 😆
- Easily one of the easiest to drive cars I have ever driven

The Meh:
- Will need new tires within the next year (current ones still have good tread, but are approaching replacement time)
- Alignment (was not done after the control arm replacement)
- Has been used in Luxembourg, so has picked up a few (minor) blemishes from inconsiderate drivers

Overall, despite its city-car class, this Smart is extremely versatile. It has driven to London and back, taken 4 people on many road trips (including to the Alps and Prague), and has helped me on numerous occasions to move objects that have no right fitting in such a small car! It’s happy to cruise on the motorway at 120km/h in relative quiet, but really shines in the city where it’s small size and amazing turning circle mean no parking spot is ever too tight. And for street cred, it’s rear-engined and rear wheel drive, though it’s certainly not a sports car 😅. All this to say that this car really punches above its weight class when it comes to both functionality and versatility, and I’m sure its next owner will appreciate it as much as we have!
